How to start a Movement?

A leader needs the gut to stand out and be ridiculed, and then he needs a follower, who’ll show everybody else how to follow, and then the leader needs to embrace the follower as equal, now its not about the leader alone, but its about them, and then you have more followers, and now its a movement.

Malcolm Gladwell: Can we believe what people tell us?

The more we learn about human beings, the more obvious it becomes on how wrong our previously held perceptions are.

Marketers heavily rely on surveys, questionnaires and polls to understand what customers really want, they try hard to come up with products and services which are tailored around these public opinions, but still, there are times when these products fail. Human beings actually don’t know what there preferences are, many times we end up buying things which we really don’t like, and sometimes overlook things that we like.

In this PopTech presentation, Malcolm Gladwell explains how to overcome these inclinations.

If you want to build a team, then put them on a ‘Marshmallow Challenge’. The challenge sounds simple, the teams have eighteen minutes to build the tallest free-standing structure out of 20 sticks spaghetti, one yard of tape, one yard of string, and one marshmallow. The marshmallow needs to be on top.

The Marshmallow Challenge, leads the teams to experience, innovation, creativity, and collaboration.

Steve Jobs’ Advice to Nike

From Fast Company: Apple CEO Steve Jobs is among the greatest innovators of our time. And yet his genius for understanding business is rarely explained in any public way. Rarer still is to hear the advice he would give to the CEO of another hugely successful company: Nike. But that’s exactly what you’ll learn from this video, in which Nike president and CEO Mark Parker tells about the advice that Jobs gave him shortly after the release of the Nike+ product line. It’s a simple bit of wisdom that any entrepreneur can relate to: “Get rid of the crappy stuff.”

“There is no such thing as maturity. There is instead an ever-evolving process of maturing. Because when there is a maturity, there is a conclusion and a cessation. That’s the end. That’s when the coffin is closed. You might be deteriorating physically in the long process of aging, but your personal process of daily discovery is ongoing. You continue to learn more and more about yourself every day."
- Bruce Lee
